What equipment do I need?

The very basic equipment you need to start broadcasting, is a microphone and a computer... But if you are serious about radio, we can help with a more sophisticated, but simple to use solution. Here are some examples

Basic

The most basic equipment you will need to start making podcasts is:

• A Laptop or PC - we can advise on minimum spec. Contact us for details
• A microphone - Perhaps a “Blue Snowflake” USB microphone
• Editing software - FREE, contact us for details

Intermediate

Moving up from basic podcasting, you might want to look at a streaming studio solution. You will need some more equipment:

• A professional audio playout system - ENCO Presenter
• Microphones - Perhaps the “Rhode NT1 Condenser” or “Shure SM58”
• An audio mixer - similar to the broadcast desk, “Sonifex S1”
• Portable recording devices - our “zoom” handheld recorders are ideal
• Editing software - FREE, contact us for details
• Monitor Speakers - “ Tannoy Reveal 5a”
• Headphones - something like the “Beyerdynamic DT100”
• Stands, support equipment and basic studio furniture.

Advanced

The intermediate package is great as a part time taster solution. If you want to run a 24/7 service with the ability to stream online, over air or from remote locations (outside broadcast) you might need to take the next step:

• A professional audio playout system - ENCO Presenter
• Microphones - Perhaps the “Rhode NT1 Condenser” or “Shure SM58”
• An audio mixer - similar to the broadcast desk, “Sonifex S2” or “Alice Air2000”
• Portable recording devices - our “zoom” handheld recorders are ideal
• Telephone Balance Unit - for taking telephone calls “on air”
• Editing software - FREE, contact us for details
• Monitor Speakers - “ Tannoy Reveal 5a”
• Headphones - something like the “Beyerdynamic DT100”
• Audio Processing and signal control
• Radio Mic - broadcast to the studio without cables
• Stands, support equipment and basic studio furniture.
• On- Air Warning lights

Portable

Any of the above examples are available in a portable unit. Portable solutions are ideal if space is scarce. Simply roll the studio into a classroom and connect to the “broadcast hub” via wireless.
